Thank you for inquiring about whether our landlords take Section 8 clients. The short answer is that all landlords are now supposed to take Section 8 clients.
The full answer is a bit more complicated...
Recently, New York passed a law making it illegal for a landlord to discriminate against prospective tenants on the basis of their source of income, as long as it's from a lawful source. "A lawful source" includes government programs and housing vouchers. This means that New York landlords may not discriminate solely on the grounds that the prospective tenant is including the value of their housing vouchers as part of their income.
However, this doesn't mean that a landlord has to approve your application. If you are using housing vouchers you must still meet any employment, income, credit worthiness, and security requirements that the landlord uses to approve rental applications. As of this time, the criteria that landlords use varies widely and there is no uniform way of knowing how a landlord will qualify you financially.
With RDNY.com you only pay a one-time subscription charge to view all our listings on the web. We GUARANTEE that all our apartment rentals are 100% NO BROKER FEE apartments.
While we welcome your business, we can not know how the landlords who list their apartments on our web site will interpret the new law.
If you become a member of RDNY.com, you may find landlords willing to consider your application. There will also be many landlords who will find valid reasons not to consider your application. Please be aware that RDNY.com cannot be held responsible for a landlord denying your application.
