Country Club is a mostly Italian neighborhood of well-kept homes with immaculately maintained yards. Along the waterfront you'll find lovely homes with private docks, beaches, and beach clubs; elsewhere, the houses tend to be small on small plots. Country Club is named for the Country Club of Westchester, which stood on Eastchester Bay from 1881 until 1922. Rentals are often in private homes rather than in apartment buildings. There is no commercial area in Country Club. A number of family-owned Italian specialty stores, delicatessens, and restaurants are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood, but for large chain supermarkets residents go to the Bay Plaza shopping center, about 15 minutes away.

Siwanoy Indians were the original settlers of what is now City Island. It was established as an English settlement in 1685. City Island remains a maritime community with yacht clubs, sailing schools, sail makers, marinas, fishing boats, and marine supply and repair shops. It is a popular tourist place for New Yorkers and anyone who is charmed by a seaside community. The main street, City Island Avenue, runs the length of the island and is filled with restaurants. However, there are no public beaches and the marinas are mostly private.
