 Pelham Bay is primarily an Irish and Italian neighborhood. Housing is mostly brick apartment buildings dating from the 1920s and 1950s, along with some one-family houses. Westchester Avenue is the principal commercial thoroughfare. The Pelham Bay Park is the city's largest at 2765 acres, and it has a beach! Orchard Beach is a mile long and is the Bronx's only beach.
Middletown, so named, perhaps, because it was midway from the village of Westchester to the Pelham Bay Park Bridge.
