 Rutherford and East Rutherford are situated in the meadowlands, a marshy basin that surrounds the estuaries of the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers. The HMDC Environmental Center on Valley Road teaches visitors about this remarkable natural resource. The towns are comfortably middle-class.
