Are short term rentals furnished? |

Some are, and some aren't. Our listing always tell you if the apartment is furnished. If it does not explicitly say that the apartment is furnished, you can assume it isn't. Several of our landlords will be happy to add furniture if you want it, for an added price. But fear not! There are several furniture rental companies that will be happy to rent you whatever you need: just the basics or full luxury furnishings for a palace. |

What happens if I rent an apartment with a one year lease, but leave after only 9 or 10 months? |
The risk in breaking your lease is usually limited to forfeiting your security deposit. While you have technically broken your lease agreement with the landlord, courts in New York have ruled that the landlord must have been "damaged" in order to penalize you, which they can only do by taking you to Housing Court -- a long, tedious, expensive proposition for the landlord in a usually pro-tenant court.
But you can minimize the risk of losing your security deposit! Just let the landlord know in advance (a month would be nice) when you plan to leave and find out what the next rent will be. Then call us with your moving date and the new rental price. We will add your apartment to our rental database and you’ll get calls from Rent-Direct.com members who would like to rent your apartment .
If you present your landlord with a well qualified applicant for the apartment, ready to rent it from the day you leave, you have a win/win situation: You get out of your lease and the landlord gets a new tenant with no interruption of the rent. Under these circumstances, most landlords will be happy to return your security deposit, give you a hearty handshake, and wish you well. And you come out a winner! |
