By the way, there is no "hill" in the neighborhood these days. It was leveled some time ago, but the hill used to be around Park Ave and 36th St.
Murray Hill today retains much of its residential nature thanks to a unique idea of the Murray family heirs: they created a real estate limitation called the 1847 Restriction that forbade smith shops, breweries, and zoos from being built on any part of the original Murray Hill estate.
Fortunately for us, the 1847 Restriction did not deter the growth of a lively restaurant and bar scene on Third Ave and Park Ave South. This area is quite popular with professionals in their 20s and 30s who like going out and meeting new people. |
