Freidrich Wilhelm Augustus Baron von Steuben was born in 1730. He served in the Prussian army under Frederick the Great, which was the mightiest army in Europe at that time. In 1777, he arrived in America and offered his military skills to General George Washington to help the colonists win the U.S. War of Independence. That's who he is. |
