This building, built in 1929-1931, was designated a City Landmark by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1996. Originally an office building (home of City Bank Farmer's Trust, and later Citibank), the upper floors were converted to residential in 2008, with the bottom 16 floors a mix of office and retail space.
The architectural firm Cross and Cross designed the building in the "modern classic" style, with art deco ornamentation. As of 2008, it was the 6th tallest building in Lower Manhattan.
This building served as the fictional branch location of "Manhattan Trust Bank" in the 1996 movie "Inside Man," directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster. |
