Bronx Apartment Rental Info
Riverdale / Fieldston / Marble Hill (Bronx Apartments) Neighborhood Information for Apartment Renters
- Riverdale
- In far western Bronx, between Riverdale Park and Van Cortland Park, Riverdale is a prosperous, quiet, and safe community with beautiful views of the Hudson River. This is a residential area that feels more like Westchester than New York. Perhaps part of its beauty is because it was a planned community by Frederick Law Olmstead, the man who designed Central Park. There are a few high-rise rental complexes along with the high-rise co-ops. Shopping is mostly on Riverdale Ave and 230th St. Spuyten Duyvil (pronounced Spite-ten Die-vil) was the name of a local creek, an off-shoot of the Harlem River, that has been filled in. Its path is today's 230th St. The name lingers as a local name for the part of Riverdale that's directly across Manhattan from Inwood Hill Park.
- Fieldston
- Fieldston is an exclusive area within Riverdale with lovely mansions, private streets, the Whitehall co-op, and some of the best private schools in the city - Horace Mann, the Fieldston School, and Riverdale Country Day School. Fieldston Hill at 250th St and Grosvenor Ave is the highest point in the Bronx.
- Marble Hill
- Marble Hill is a political piece of Manhattan but is physically in the Bronx. That means residents vote for Manhattan candidates but receive city services from the Bronx. The reason has to do with a creek that changed routes and a canal that was created by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1895 and later filled in, separating Marble Hill from Manhattan and attaching it to the mainland. The rents are more Bronx than Manhattan, luckily for you.
