Brooklyn Apartment Rental Info
Marine Park / Mill Basin (Brooklyn Apartments) Neighborhood Information for Apartment Renters
- Marine Park
- Marine Park has the largest green space in Brooklyn. The 798-acre park has vast open spaces to play golf, tennis, softball, football, cricket, and soccer. You can hike the Gerritson Creek Nature Trail into a marsh landscape that makes you wonder if you're still in New York. Rents are among the most economical in the city because of the long commute into Manhattan. (There’s no extra charge for the serenity.) Marine Park is predominated by Italian American, Irish American, and Jewish immigrants. Most families stay in the neighborhood for generations.
- Mill Basin
- Descendants of the early Dutch immigrants originally inhabited Mill Basin, followed by Italians and Irish immigrants. Adding to the melting pot are more recent immigrants from China, Russia, Korea, Israel, Italy, Egypt, and Lebanon. This is an unconventional neighborhood in more ways than its ethnic mix: it was the first neighborhood in the city to have a suburban mall: Kings Plaza Shopping Center, which is still going strong. Oddly, the mall doesn't intrude too much on Mill Basin's satisfaction in being an isolated beach community.
