Morningside Height's Apartments
Neighborhood Information for Renters
Morningside Heights sits between two parks: Riverside Park and Morningside Park. In addition, you'll find New York's only Gothic cathedral: St. John the Divine, designed to always be a work in progress. Columbia University physically and culturally dominates the area. It sits on one of the highest points in Manhattan (this part of New York is quite hilly) and its students, faculty, and employees influence the kinds of businesses and services that set up shop here - the best shopping is around Broadway, near the University.
Housing costs are less than in the other parts of the city, but the bargains won't last much longer. Large, lovely, and low-priced pre-War buildings are being discovered by renters who aren't connected to the University. The city, in fact, encourages people to buy abandoned brownstones in Manhattanville by offering them for sale at bargain prices, hoping they'll be renovated and offered for rent as new, affordable housing. These are economically, racially, and generationally diverse neighborhoods. |
