Clifton / Bloomfield (New Jersey Apartments) Neighborhood Information for Apartment Renters

Clifton: Clifton is one of New Jersey's largest municipalities and has few undeveloped spaces. It's primarily residential with several commercial centers spread out among its neighborhoods. The most conspicuous center is Clifton Commons on Route 3, the major highway that feeds into the Lincoln Tunnel. Several new townhouse developments have put pressure on the school system, but the town has been searching for a site for a new middle school and expects to break ground in late 2005.
Bloomfield: Bloomfield is not contiguous with Clifton; it borders Newark but it's a lot like Clifton. It's a settled, suburban community with almost no new development because there are no empty spaces. Bloomfield is solidly middle-class.

Single family homes predominate in Clifton, but the neighborhoods range from large single-family homes to multi-famliy detached houses to garden apartment complexes. There are several senior housing complexes.

Transportation to Midtown/Downtown

From Clifton, the Main Line of NJ Transit Rail System takes you to the Secaucus Junction and to the Erie Lackawanna Trail Terminal in Hoboken. From the Hoboken Terminal, PATH trains take you to either the World Trade Center or to 33rd St and 6th Ave with stops at Christopher St, 9th St, 14th St, and 23rd St. The NJ Transit Bus Route #190, 191, and 192 all stop in Clifton on their way to the Port Authority at 42nd St and 8th Ave.

By train: about 20 mins to Secaucus and about 25 mins from Clifton to Hoboken.

By bus: 30 mins from Clifton to the Port Authority. PATH takes 15 - 20 mins to arrive at either lower Manhattan or 33rd St.
