New Jersey Apartment Rental Info
West Orange / East Orange / South Orange (New Jersey Apartments) Neighborhood Information for Apartment Renters
South Orange is a small (about 6000 residents), upper middle class town that introduced Standard Time to the United States. In 1883, the railroads convened a General Time Convention to decide a unified time system to make the train system run smoothly and on time. Standard time came out of this convention, which the railroads adopted and which Congress finally sanctioned as the official US time standard in 1919. Seton Hall University is an active participant in the community. West Orange is a large (about 45,000 residents), middle class town made famous when Thomas Edison moved his invention factory here in 1887. Most of the town is in the Watchung Mountains. The Manor, a large catering hall and restaurant, is known in New Jersey as the swankiest place to hold your important dinners. East Orange is small-ish (18,000 residents) and lower-middle class close to Newark. It has a huge talent pool: Whitney Houston, Althea Gibson, Dionne Warwick, and Queen Latifah all hail from this vibrant community.
