Rosedale / Brookville (Queens Apartments) Neighborhood Information for Apartment Renters

Rosedale: Originally called Fosters Meadows, Rosedale is located in the southwestern corner of the mainland portion of Queens. Housing consists of middle-class one and two-family homes, duplexes and townhouses. Ethnic groups in the neighborhood include Latin Americans, Jews, and Italians. Rosedale has an abundance of fair rents because it is fairly isolated - there is no subway service to Manhattan from this corner of Queens. There is a Rosedale LIRR stop that will take you to Penn Station in about 30 mins. Community activists in 2003 were able to preserve a tract of marsh wetlands along Jamaica Bay that the city had agreed to sell to a developer who was going to build a mall.
Brookville: Brookville is the local name for the neighborhood immediately north of John F. Kennedy International Airport, named for the stream that runs through the area. (There's a Brookville in Nassau County, so don't confuse them.)

Singles / Families: This is a family-centered community. Not great for singles.
Types of Housing: Middle-income single-family homes, 2-family homes, a few co-ops and condos.
Typical Price Range: Studios: $800—$950, 1 Bedroom: $900—$1300, 2 Bedrooms: $1200—$1600
Transportation to Midtown/Downtown: There is no subway service to Manhattan.
Estimated Commuter time to arrival in NYC: To midtown: 30 mins to Penn Station.
